Happy Birthday to You!

Just fitting! As I sit here to write about Jacob's first birthday, a sparrow is sitting on the window ledge. Since his birth, as our relationship has grown, Jacob has been called many names by his Mother. One of which is Baby Bird. He would chirp to me, we would have our own little conversations about nothing in particular. So sweet! Jacob also loves birds. He is fascinated by them. We have a dove's nest outside and his finger goes up in the air to say he sees the nest and the momma bird.

We went to Amarillo for Jacob's birthday. We had an action packed day beginning with visiting our old church and seeing old friends briefly. When we made it back to my parents house, I began baking Jacob's cake. It was a two tier, 6 inch round vanilla cake with fresh strawberry pieces. The icing was butter cream and tinted blue. Stars in red, yellow, green and blue covered the top and sides.

I was super excited about Jacob's birthday and cake. Some people say he will not remember, but in my opinion, we have no idea what he will remember. Why not make it great!

I expected Jacob to smash and squish his cake. Instead, he placed his hand into the icing, placed in mouth, and returned for more, perfectly intent on eating icing a little at a time. We brought out the fork. Justin showed Jacob there is more than icing to a birthday cake. All in all, Jacob was very precise in eating his first cake. He even shared it with Mom & Dad...what a sweet guy! Jacob also had ice cream (for the second time - first time was with my Dad the day before). It was strawberry, and I think he liked it!

We had a wonderful time watching Jacob and experiencing many new things with him while in Amarillo. I hope you enjoy the picture slide show...
