First off, I do not understand all the little games on Facebook. You know, the 'blast from the past', patches of this or that, and on and on. Don't get me wrong, I like to receive the requests, but I just have not sat down long enough to figure it all out.
Other things are more pressing right now. We have half our family room primed. Whoo-hoo! I bought a book on how to make curtains. Yeah, let's pray this turns out well! Before our little blessing arrives, my plan is to have curtains in the family room, paint family room, paint kitchen and dining area, paint baby's room, move Jacob to a big boy bed, and rearrange our bedroom. In addition to this, I need to de-weed my gardens in the backyard, mulch and relax.
On the business of moving Jacob to a big boy bed... I need your input. This is the scenario in my mind. We have a full size bed without headboard in what will be the baby's room. The crib and changing table will go into the baby's room. That leaves me with a few options. We have three bedrooms and one living area. Do we move the full size bed into Jacob's room and buy a new, sturdy bed for him with guard rails? Do we put the full size on the floor? Do we set up the full size bed and have a toddler mattress on the floor for Jacob? Do we buy a toddler bed (used) and use that instead of the full size? Do we put both the full size and toddler bed in the same room or just the toddler bed? Or, should we sell/giveaway the full size and put in a twin with a trundle bed?
The tricky part is that when my parents or Justin's come to visit, the full size bed is used (we usually have guests sleep in our bedroom and we take the other bed). Justin thought we could cover it and store in the attic - bringing it down when we have guests. I guess he would just leave the bed on the floor in Jacob's room while we have guests. If we made the full size Jacob's bed, when we have visitors, we would have Jacob sleep with us or on the extra crib mattress we already own.
What would you do? What have you done to move your little one from the crib? How old was he/she? And, is there anything you would do the same or differently????
Please, I need your help!!!!! I am so blessed to have you as my friend and so blessed to have your input!

We moved Grayson into our guest room after we decorated it and put new books and such (making it really special for him so that he would be excited for his new room and not want to sleep in the old room). We also moved everything out that was his from the baby's room and closed the door so that he would forget about it. We did it about 5 months before the new baby arrived so that he wouldn't think he was being replaced. We started him off sleeping in the full bed on the floor pushed about against the wall so that if he rolled off the one side, it wouldn't be far. Once he got use to that, we switched him into a twin bed with a roll away underneath (the room wasn't big enough for the full and all his toys so we had to switch, otherwise we would have kept the full bed). Our guests sleep on the roll out and twin when we have company and Grayson sleeps on a sleeping bag on the floor. Grayson was 2 when we moved him from the crib. It worked perfectly for us so I wouldn't do anything differently, but I know everyone is different. We didn't have any trouble with Grayson getting out of bed after we put him down and didn't need/use a side rail. Good luck!
We obviously haven't gone through this, but I like the idea of getting a twin with trundle. I think you could either store the full or sell it, and if you give guests your bed anyway, then you and Justin take the twin/trundle combo and jacob sleeps in a sleeping bag like your friend said above. It would be fun, like he's camping out with mom and dad! I don't really like the idea of a full bed for a toddler, just seems like too much space for a little one. Trundle on a twin is also good if he ever has a friend sleep over. Good luck!!
Susan, have you looked into getting guardrails for the full sized bed? I remember the ones we had when we were little that slid under the mattress. I think they still make them.
I vote no for putting the mattress in the attic - what a pain! (Especially b/c getting it down will be a two adult person job - not something you could pull of by yourself while watching 2 kiddos.)
2 years ago, we found a set of wooden bunk beds on clearance at Haverty's (do they have those in TX?). We un-bunked the beds and now have one in Sam's romm and the other in the bonus room with a trundle bed under it. The top bunk (now in Sam's room) is lower to the ground than a regular bed and we didn't have to get box springs for any of the 3 twin mattresses.
